I’m Kira Duwenhorst - designer and creative mind behind Naturel Noord. I live in Bad Homburg right at the gateway to the Taunus with my husband Mr. Jo, son Loki and Labradoodle Kroko.
I love to illustrate, design, play with materials and am the merriest when I flow freely in my home studio with pen, paint + paper.
My mission is to delight you with my designs, bring a pop of color into people's life and raise a smile.
for the lowdown
If I’m not in my studio, you probably find me outdoors playing hide and seek with my little one, devouring either books or cake or - more likely - both.
Living right at Frankfurt's northern gateway. The Taunus mountains are my oasis of peace, where I immerse in nature and hide away on weekends.
My roots run deep: the inner compass needle always points north and my heart beats rural. What shall I say - I'm born and raised in Northern German lowlands!
Super power: a good sense of direction. I'm not getting lost easily.
Greatest weakness? Cake. Any and all kinds. Also, I can't walk past a flea market. Much to the dispair of Mr. Jo.
I’m neither an extrovert nor an introvert. I'd rather say nothing than talk about nothing, but I come alive in genuine conversations with kindred spirits where the vibe is right. Hands up if you are of this hybrid species, too!
I’ve lived in five countries, which taught me a ton, first and foremost that the smallest acts of kindness show true greatness.
Going to bed at 9 pm is my kinda party.
Deathly afraid of mice that's why I regularly rack my brain over the question if adopting a kitty cat would solve or worsen the situation.

My patience is best to test behind the steering wheel.
I'm many things. But being a mama to my son is the greatest gift in my life. Sounds cheesy - but it's true!
Magic bullet for grey days: thrifting furniture treasures on ebay + binge watching "Friends" for the umpteenth time.
When it comes to inspiration for my designs, the little pleasures of everyday life, catchy phrases I overhear and beautiful color combinations I spot impact me most. I believe perfection is dull and beauty can be found in little flaws and cracks. This is what makes our surroundings unique, recognizable but most importantly amusing and whimsical.
question of style
how the
magic gets
Most of my illustration work is created on my magic board (aka tablet ;-) ). I enjoy the freedom and flexibility of creating digitally - it allows me to use small and large windows of opportunity in daily life to create my designs from wherever I please. Diving into the digital sphere where I draw and start moving vectors and pixels until I feel everything is exactly where it belongs, brings joy to me.
But just as importantly, I regularly like to create physically, too – whether it be with paint, ink, fabric or paper - I love experimenting with artisanal techniques.

Mesmerized by fusion, my style is best described as a mixture of refined simplicity, a pop of color and a dash of fun. The results are motifs and patterns where color and objects create a delicate contrast. My passion for cheerful yet harmonizing colors and coarse elements shines through in all my designs.
